4 steps to a personally branded CV
2014 has arrived and here we are, ready, to keep on looking after our careers. To make a good start in the year let''s begin this week by looking at how we can craft a personally branded CV.
1. Τitle
One of the sections recruiters tend to focus on during the 6 seconds they scan a CV is our name. Try to make the most of this section by adding a title (resembling a LinkedIn tagline) under your name. Let the recruiter know in one single glance what you can do for them.
2. Content
Try to avoid getting carried away by CV stereotypes. A CV that oozes your Top 3 personal brand attributes is by far more engaging, more appealing and definately more authentic than competiition. Work on discovering what people you work with value as important and use well chosen words and phrases to highlight these attributes. If you have already done that, take it one step further and aim in corresponding your achievements to your Top 3 personal brand attributes.
3. References
References are crucial. CVs that include references are so much more powerful and showcase much better the professional''s personal brand. References give the recruiter a chance to make a more informed decision, they help him/her do the job more effectively. The best way to include references is by linking your CV to your Recommendations page on LinkedIn or to the Testimonials section on your personal website.
4. Frame Top Page
The top section of the first page is extremely important when it comes to your CV: use it to showcase any qualities, skills, achievements or attributes that you have and that you believe will create emotional bonding with the recruiter.
Until next week, do take good care of your career.
