CV- Website: what do they have in common?

The quickest answer to this question is: These career tools have one thing in common, our personal brand.Let''s see why:

The aim of our CV is to get us an interview (and not a job). The aim of a website is to get the prospective client to contact us to enquire about our services. It is always good to have a clear aim. Therefore, before getting started on our CVs or websites we need to be clear that we aim at the right audience and that we will provide this audience with an answer to the need they have.

Both our CV and our website are not for everybody. But if we are unsure about who we want to communicate with and what the message is, how will the "right people" manage to communicate with us? They only spend 30'''' on our CV and on website anyway, before deciding on their next step...

Both "career tools" showcase our personal brand. To make them count we need to follow the same steps: be clear on what makes us professionally unique and who our target audience is, and put a lot of effort and skill into choosing the words which will help our personal brand attributes come to light and help us create an emotional bond with anyone reading.

Most of all, both tools need constant care and attention. They are not a "necessary evil". We lovingly create them to show out there what we as professionals really stand for. And we all stand for a lot of important and diverse things.

Until next week, do take good care of your career.
